Emmy Nominations 2019: Game Of Thrones Sweeps Noms With 32 Nods; Winter Is Coming In Summer This Time

Emmy Nominations 2019: Game Of Thrones Sweeps Noms With 32 Nods; Winter Is Coming In Summer This Time
HBO’s massively successful and controversial series, Game Of Thrones, has garnered an astounding 32 nominations at the Emmy’s this year. This is the highest number of nominations received by any show, in a single year. The results will be announced at a grand ceremony, telecast worldwide from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 22. GoT has been nominated in all major categories including the Best Drama Series. In a record breaking spree, the show has raced past “NYPD Blue,” which had 26 nominations, back in 1994.

Game Of Thrones has walked home with the Best Drama Series award last three times. A fourth win means GoT will tie with a previously held record. The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones had it’s finale on May 19. Also in the running, but no where close to GoT’s 32 noms, is the award winning comedy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It received 20 nominations. Hot on its heels is the HBO Chernobyl that gas clocked 19 nominations. This was followed closely by NBC’s Saturday Night Live that raked in 18 noms.


Along with Game Of Thrones, the immensely popular family drama, This Is Us, also has a crack in the Best Drama category. There are some new entrants in the big category, like BBC America’s Killing Eve, HBO’s Succession, FX’s Pose, Netflix’ Bodyguard and Ozark. Better Call Saul has also been nominated.
